Below are some comments made by our kittens’ new owners, that
we would like to share with you.
We always try to keep in touch with the new owners, offering
advice (if asked for) and to catch up on news and photos of our babies, and we
really enjoy reading letters and emails of their antics.
Firstly, I would like to share an email that we received from a lady, Helena from Devon, England, I hope you enjoy reading as much as we did. I know every Devon owner will identify with Helena.
Helena draws exquisite "pawtraits". Visit her site and see for yourself. http://www.mysticatworld.co.uk

thankyou for an hour of real fun on just a part of your site! I'm not a 'cat' person, and only have had two Rex kits since Nov 8th (oh, that is a date that will go on my heart!) and I only have them through the most unbelievable and unpleasant circumstances, but fate had the hand - the kits have changed my life. I'm writing in the wee small hours of a dark and wet-foggy night in SW England, it is cold and miserable and I have the two kits on my lap in the state that every Rex-owned human will know well: totally under control, ready to stroke at a moment's notice, providing fun on the keyboard when required and dressed in suitably Rex-approved clothing for climbing up, snuggling into and a little grooming practice. Whow, they have even got me to cut my hair short enough to have lessons from them in proper hair-care. Yes, every word of your comments page made me smile - mine taught me to close the toilet lid VERY soon after I had them, and the eating of butter, yes again, one of these decided to tidy up the remains of a pack the other night. Sleeping, well, everyone knows that humans are made for Rex kittens to snuggle against, move over to keep bed warm, to climb up paw by paw in the night and to even serve breakfast in bed to order. The water by the bed - I solved that by taking a glass of tonic water to bed instead - even these rascals don't like that, so I do get a drink! We share meals, or rather, I get told when to provide them - my legs, back and shoulders are covered in stripes that are renewed each day in case I forget my place as a taxi, and talking - I have made some progress in learning the proper language of the planet, which ranges from the subtle purrups and cheepings to full scale wails if I dare to leave a room without permission - or return without food! The only thing I note that no-one has mentioned is that they are quite content to be sat on, unlike most other creatures including most humans - well, I had better add that I have to move rather rapidly, but I don't get clawed or hissed at, the Rex is very tolerant of human failings! I also note that other people seem to have noticed their amazing ability to use their front paws as small hands, picking things up and using the first 'finger' against the others - I am (not joking) trying to encourage mine to let me clean their teeth by letting them hold a baby's toothbrush, and it is so funny to see them holding it by the handle! No, the Rex is definitely NOT a cat, a feline. It has to be a mutation from another branch of evolution, just happens to look vaguely like a cat - in fact, the sudden appearance of a solo Rex near a very spooky bit of the countryside (it is not that far from where I live actually) just has to back up the alternative theory that they are actually descendants of a visitor from another planet - thus the E.T. looks, and how come that E.T., Gremlins, Goblins, Elves etc all have the same characteristics, physical and mental? There has to be truth in it, and they are just too clever for this to be brushed aside as a silly idea .... So, friends, how about someone doing a bit of pseudo academic research on the true origins of the species??
Migaloo has settled in well - we are so happy with him. He sleeps either at the end of our bed in his cat basket or under our covers every night. He is just so beautiful and has so much personality. Still getting used to the shih-tsu's but is becoming a bit more tolerant (he actually bit our boy chuckie's tail yesterday- he couldn't resist the wagging right in front of his nose!).
Lila is settling in. She cried in the car all the way to my sister's place (10mins from your place) and then in the house she searched and searched for, we think, her litter mates. She eventually settled down. Then we headed off for home after lunch and she slept most of the way except whenever I hit a bump in the road according to Tara. About 10 minutes from home she started crying again but soon settled down. She loves my study, it's full of clothes and other goodies and a couch to hide under. We got her a couple of small scratching posts and a cat tunnel which she loves running through. That was $10 wellspent in Crazy Clarks this afternoon haha.My dog Bella doesn't know what to make of it all. We've kept her on a leash till she settles down and when the kitten hissed at her a few times Bella, as predicted, rolled straight onto her back in submission!! Lila seems to be slowly accepting the presence of a dog but we'll take it easy there. Bella is a small dog (moodle) and is very friendly so hopefully it won't be long before they're friends.
A few weeks ago I had wanted to let you know how well Yoda was going.. But a day later he decided to take a ride in a neighbour's car to a shopping centre 6km away.We walked streets and talked with people & businesses, did a flyer drop, advertised in papers web pages, cat haven, vet clinics. We were distraught and our boys missed their 'catty' immensely. Two weeks ago yesterday he commenced his adventure and today he came home to us. He covered 3 kms on his first day and bunked down with a cat friendly person for 2 weeks. His adopted owner decided to keep this 'unusual' cat but was concerned about the inconsistent hair distribution and wisely took him to a nearby vet. This vet was quick to spot a devon rex and remembered a tearful phone call 2 weeks beforehand. He fattened up enormously in 2 weeks and is quite impatient about all fuss we've made of him today on is return. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to have him home...
I understand now your policy on encouraging in-house cat owners and it would be something I would do after Yoda. The upside is we had a neighbourhood army effort assisting us with recovering Yoda. He is adored by our street and brings much joy to the kids accessing the playground three doors down and the daycare centre across the road. There will be madness at these places when 'Catty' is discovered on Monday. In fact he has a special "A welcome back home" party for neighbours who have put in exhaustive hours to get the word around about Yoda's disappearance! So I just wanted to let you know about a particularly amazing story and outcome about one of your wee cats. Yoda is so loved in this home and quite frankly he rules us (including 2 little boys). Thanks so much for Yoda
Happy new year to you. Just a note to let you know we are all well and that includes "Keanu" who is a wonderful cat and mate! You might remember we live in Dubbo nsw and Keanu will be three or four this april not sure how long we have had him now.
It's been quite a while since I have let you know how Tarquin is going. He is doing fine - and loving winter cos he gets to snuggle with me under the blankets! He still takes our little blind dog for her morning walks and only occasionally does he jump on her 'just for fun' ... he really is wonderful with her. He is also convinced that my lap is his and I virtually have to work my day around 'having a sitdown' - cos we all know that once you sit down a certain pusscat will sit down too - on you - and dislodging them can be quite a trial. He also insists on being with me when I shower - usually sitting on the toilet seat with accompanying commentary. All visitors are so taken with him because he "looks so different" - comments like "do you shave your cat" or "what's wrong with his coat" are usual. He is standoffish with all visitors but will let them stroke his coat while sitting on my lap when they are here. My shoulders are still a great resting place and he often peers from my shoulder when I am working on the computer doing bookwork, giving me the occasions face rub - just to let me know he is still there :) We all just adore him and can't imagine life without our fearless red hunter. Thank you again for breeding such a wonderful boy.
Well, we are still at it. At least the dog has stopped shaking around them. The boys are now moving in closer and closer to her as she sits on the couch panting with anxiety. They are such a joy to be around. Darryl really loves the way they frequently and suddenly appear in his lap or at his feet looking up at him as if asking to be picked up like a small child. Of course this is met with purring and head nudging. At night they happily snuggle in bed with us all night long - under the covers! In the morning, they are last to crawl out of bed! Sometime in the middle of the night, one of them decided to pounce on Darryl's shoulder and have a little nibble while he was fast asleep. They got his attention all right! Then made a dash for the foot of the bed to further the attack on the now weakened enemy... doing the four legged attack on any moving or not legs and feet - his of course. They spent today in the dining room - which is also quite warm and sunny. They discovered that racing around the dinning room chairs under the table like a race track is a hoot! Darryl is quite smitten with them and is slowly getting used to them zipping past him - in between his legs as he walks around. Guess where Soomee is right now... perched on my shoulder watching intently as I type to you - do you think he knows I am writing to Grandma? Likely! They certainly are entertaining! I just love them to bits! Their personalities are unlike any of the others... which is as it should be. I promise... this won't be a daily update... who else can I share this experience with except Devon lovers? And... besides that - I know you love them as much as I do. It is clearly evident they have been loved and adored from day one.
We would have written sooner but Jazzi has developed a habit of chewing chords. Namely the computer ones - twice - so we've been offline for a while. All are doing well. I know that we're having a little boy in March, so I'll have a whole house of boys. I have attached a photo so that you can see my boys still are getting on really well together and it's lovely to see.
Miko is actually sitting on my lap while I am getting this off to you. He has been sleeping with me. I am amazed how very quick he is and the length of his arms and legs and.....the shortness of his little whiskers! He went on the back of the computer chair and jumped on my shoulder! Helena did tell me all of this AND so much more too ......it wasn't that I didn't believe her ....but......the other girls are just simply felines and well HE IS NOT A CAT .....ALSO I always wanted a lap cat and my other girls are not but they love to be babied. I sort of got it in my head that I would just be the most unluckiest person and that I would get the one and only Devon Rex that wouldn't come on my lap!
Thought I would give you a little update of how Miko is settling in. He was a little stressed yesterday probably because of the other furry girls but we haven't had to isolate him and I was pleased about that although I was worried about him last night and took him into bed with me and he didn't move at all all night and I was really surprised. This morning he had some nibblies for the first time and was real hungry for the whiskers wet food and hasn't made any mistakes - you would be so proud of him and he has started to play with a little tunnel and ball in between having lots of cuddles from everyone! - he even sussed out the computer and tried to climb up on my shoulder! You see I am not used to my other girls doing anything like he does! Helena told me all about what her boys do but I have yet to experience anything like this. I am thrilled to bits with him Alison. You wouldn't believe ...but I think you would....how different he is to our other furry girls. They are being very standoffish with him but I think they will come round eventually! They can't understand why he is not hissing back!!!
Well - the two little hooligans are settled in - still
integrating Joule(the dog), they are all afraid of each other but curious...will
only take a few days I am sure. As we suspected, they quickly pegged Darryl as
head cool cat and the moment he is around - he is the center of their focus! He
already adores them Last night they happily snuggled in bed with us all night
long - under the covers! No mistakes so far with the pop box either. They seem
to play for about an hour and then cat nap for a couple and then start all over
again. They have picked their cat napping spot... under the covers of our bed!
They are happy and adjusted incredibly well so far - except for Joule... which
we will take time with.
